And now for some good news!

Janice Anderssen

With winter just outside the door I'm praying that we aren't in for a cold one.  With the recent load shedding fiasco, I'm going to be too scared to turn on the heater in case I cause a total power melt-down!

I thought that I would be clever and be one of the first to stock up on gas cylinders as an energy-saving alternative - not!  It seems that everyone thinks the way I do, because apparently - once again just before winter - there is a shortage of gas.  Not to mention the fact that gas cylinders are getting more expensive by the day. No matter which way we turn, it's going to be difficult to stay warm this winter.

Staying in a residential development means that a petrol generator is not an option for me -  I just cannot imagine the racket if everyone had to 'petrol up' during a power outage. Plus the fact that a lot of communal developments have made it a condition that you have to have a sound-dampening cover specially made up to reduce the noise level. And generators gobble up petrol so fast you need to have a petrol station on your doorstep - not a very green option if you think about it.

Looks like I'm going to be stocking up on throws and blankets this winter.  At least that is an affordable - and green - option!

well, there is another option and much greener, go for a UPS to keep the Telly and lights on, but not good for a heater!
