Don't be afraid to DIY-it

Janice Anderssen

DIY can save you hundreds, if not thousands, of Rands!

Doing it for yourself is not something new, it has been around for such a long time, yet many homeowners are still not savvy to the benefits of doing it for themselves.

Whilst there are some projects that are best left to the professionals and experts, smaller projects are becoming increasingly easy to DIY.  Try and get someone out to plaster a broken corner, or replace a bathroom tile, or even brick a small paver patio for you. These days it is almost impossible to get someone out for small projects - unless, that is, you are prepared to pay the high call out fee!

DIY is definitely on the increase, and not only locally, but worldwide. Most of us have seen the increase in TV programmes dedicated to designing and decorating your home, home repairs and improvements. Websites such as Home-Dzine offer local content, ideas and inspiration for the homeowner who want to tackle their own repair and maintenance projects, and www.DIY-Divas.co.za offers training workshops on using power tools, tips, tricks and techniques. You can even sign up for workshops on making your own furniture.

You only have to visit your local hardware store to see the increasingly wide range of products and tools on offer that make life so much easier for the average DIY enthusiast.

Find out how you can become DIY savvy by visiting www.Home-Dzine.co.za
