Have you ever tried to fasten something to the wall, only to find that:
1. The screw turns continuously in the wall plug and will not go in?, or
2. The entire plug and screw comes out of the wall?
When we do projects on Home-Dzine or in Home-Dzine Online we only use fischer Fixings for fastening to walls. Why?
Not many know that fischer Fixings are made of nylon and not plastic. The main difference here is that nylon is much stronger than plastic. When you have drilled out your hole to the size of the plug and put in your screw, a nylon fixing sits firmly in the drilled hole, whereas softer plugs sometimes spin around.
Another factor that makes a BIG difference when fastening to walls - the length of the hole needs to be at least 8-10mm longer than the length of the screw. You need to allow extra length so that the screw extends further than the length of the wall plug and can expand the plug to fit the hole.
If in doubt read the box! fischer Fixings actually provide detailed instructions on their box. They indicate the size of drill bit needed, the depth and diameter to drill the hole and any other pertinent information related to each fittings. You can also visit the fischer Fixings website and download various information leaflets that make life sooooo much easier for those who want to find out the right and wrong way to attach, mount and fix to walls.
