A lick, stick and some paint

Hestelle Robinson

January really is a magical month, it signals the start of a new calendar year, opening the doors to the unknown and filling us with anticipation of what this year holds.  It whispers tales of new beginnings, and provides us with the opportunity to start afresh, to relook, change and reinvent.

And even if it is not a life-changing event you seek, it might just be a change of “familiarities”, changing your everyday environment, as this small change may spark and lead to more creative changes.

This year I assisted my mom in changing her “familiarities” and although it was not “broken” we felt that her place of business really needed, what my Gran used to call “a lick and a promise”.

So we gave it a mini-makeover.

A few small changes that made a BIG difference.

What we did:
  • Created a focal wall, by painting horizontal stripes in two different shades of grey.
  • Zhooshed the wall up even more with a few Damask decals (from Gin and Chocolate) in light grey and teal.
  • And for the reception area, a new frame with floating glass and a new vase sporting a Damask finish.  In the frame; 3 silhouettes cut from magic paper, again with the Damask motif – the golden thread that pulled the entire make-over together.
