I craved some creative inspiration this weekend and ended up in Jozi CBD.  Sounds a bit dodge I know, but I was more than pleasantly surprised with what I found.

The inner city regeneration programme really excites me.  There are so many great buildings with character and history, buildings with a story to tell, buildings that are currently hiding behind a decaying inner city.

One great rejuvenation story is that of Arts on Main in Fox street Johannesburg.

In true SoHo style the building (build in 1911) was converted into a creative and innovative space, a unique blend of studio, commercial, residential and retail spaces.  

The building houses some magnificently creative spirits and hosts a trendy Sunday market; Market on Main.  A wonderful initiative - similar to markets one expect to find in Cape Town and other creative cosmos. How refreshing for Jozi!

The market is on every Sunday from 10am - 3pm and its organisers promises something new every Sunday.

This is a cool place to hang out.  With your home brewed beer, designer smoothie, rich coffee blend or modish cocktail in hand, you rub shoulders with some of Jozi's most artistic and creative.

Exhibits range from scrumptious culinary offerings to the weird and wacky - it certainly gave me the creative infusion I was craving.  So, next time you're in need of some off the cuff creativity - put on your bohemian best and brave the Jozi inner city.  It sure is worth it.
