Bricks

Probably the most popular building material in the residential market, bricks are literally the building blocks of a home. When selecting bricks for your home, whether you’re building a new home or improving your existing one, you will be confronted by a huge selection of bricks. Not all bricks are suitable for exterior works and some may not be suitable for interior application. They come in many colours and textures and various qualities. Make sure that the bricks are from a reputable manufacturer and the Clay Brick Association uses the following classification of the bricks:

Face Brick Standard: Clay brick that are selected or produced for their durability and uniformity of size and shape.
Non-Facing Plastered: Clay bricks suitable for general building work that is to be plastered.
Face Brick Extra: Clay bricks that are selected or produced for their durability and high degree of uniformity of size, shape and colour.
Non-facing Extra: Clay bricks suitable for use, plastered or unplastered, for general building work where durability rather than aesthetics is the key selection criteria under damp conditions, for use below damp proof course or below ground level.
Face Brick Aesthetic: Clay bricks that are selected or produced for their durability and aesthetic effect deriving from non-uniformity of size, shape or colour.
