Getting organised helps you to live a less stressful, more focused and happier life. Not being organised and struggling with clutter wastes valuable time throughout your day.
So, you’ve realised you need to get your life in order, but where do you start, especially when you have a few areas to organise. Some simple tips include:
- Set doable goals – it’s easier to achieve a smaller goal like clearing out the kitchen pantry; then trying to start with a bigger goal like organising the entire kitchen. Once completed you can move to another area in the kitchen.
- Move to the music – experts agree that music is an excellent motivator, so listen to your favourite energising music while you’re organising.
- Just do it – to get you into organising mode, start with a 10min organising goal. Start with something small like organising your sock drawer or weeding out old cosmetics, this will get you in the mood to tackle a bigger job like sorting out your wardrobe.
- Get an organising buddy – this could be your partner, your child or a friend, anyone that would be able to motivate you and enjoy doing the organising with you.
- Get out – if the weather is good, take your organising outdoors. It would be the perfect surroundings to go through and organise your files on your laptop or take that pile of papers that needs filing outside.
Housekeeping Tips
Housekeeping cleaning is the routine chores that we do in our home to keep it tidy. These tasks include; doing the washing, making the beds, washing the dishes, clearing the things that get scattered throughout the house. Here are some tips to get the job done more efficiently;
- Prevention is better than cure – so if there is no mess, you don’t need to clean it up.
- By organising your home and having a ‘place’ for everything, can cut your cleaning time in half.
- Remove carpet stains immediately; the longer you leave it, the more likely they will become a permanent stain.
- Getting everyone in the house involved will make your job easier. Have a 10min ‘blitz’ everyday to make beds, pick up clothes and clear clutter in each ones room will help considerably.
- Leave shoes at the door. This will help keep sand and dirt outside. Place welcome mats at all the entrances that are routinely cleaned.
- If your home has carpets, have them professionally cleaned at least twice a year. Professionally clean your upholstered furniture and curtains once a year.
- Keep all your cleaning equipment in the same area; this will make the cleaning experience quicker, as you will not have to search for your tools.
- Vacuum high traffic areas twice a week and under and behind items at least twice a month.
- If you have pets, give them a bath once a month and keep them in their designated area.
- Putting the dirty dishes in the sink with hot soapy water and letting them soak for a few minutes before placing them in the dishwasher can eliminate scrubbing.
