Houses are getting smaller and that means rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms suffer the most. Kitchen space is usually amplified with rearranged components such as, more light and custom storage.
Here are 8 ‘think big’ tips for your size challenged space.
1. Rearrange your kitchen appliances
- See if you can rearrange large appliances like the fridge or the washing machine and create as much counter space as possible. This will make the room easier to navigate.
2. Select slender appliances
- These days, with technology and design innovation, appliances are narrower and shallower than the older units which make a vast space difference.
3. Set priorities
- Don’t buy appliances that you will rarely use, they will simply clutter your space.
4. Amplify with reflective surfaces
- Stainless-steel surfaces and appliances have a reflective quality which helps to magnify the space a bit. Stainless-steel with a brushed effect will minimise the appearance of scratches.
5. Create custom storage
- Install cupboards that reach the ceiling to maximise storage. Pullout shelves improve access to items stored in the back of cupboards. Narrow upright cabinets on the sides of appliances are handy for storing spices and oils.
6. Invite the light
- Make your windows bigger if possible or remove those bulky curtains and let in more light. Under cupboards halogen lights will give the dark corners under the cupboards more light and keeps the kitchen bright.
7. Play with colour
- Bright dashes of colour add fun to tight corners and texture to the kitchen.
8. Don’t hesitate to decorate
- Decorative hardware and details stylishly finish the space but don’t clutter.
