Home security has become a number one priority in most homes and this means starting with the basics, which includes burglar bars.

The two most common types of burglar bars are those mounted on the inside of the window frame and Spanish burglar bars which are mounted on the exterior of the window. There are different burglar bars available for wooden and steel frames.

Interior burglar bars are made from 8mm round steel bars which are welded into a variety of patterns. The burglar bars are attached are attached to the frame with screws, which can be welded to the frame (steel frames).

Some homeowners use one-way screws to fix their burglar bars to the frame, but since most burglars simply use hacksaws and bolt cutters to force their way in, an alternative would be to use stainless steel screws. These screws allow you to remove the bars, if, for example, you would like to paint.

Spanish burglar bars are usually square section 10mm steel or thicker. They are anchored to the wall with rawl bolts or steel pegs embedded into the wall.

The only real disadvantage of Spanish burglar bars is that they limit how far you can open the windows, but their advantage is that because they are made from thicker steel, potential burglars are more likely to be deterred.

So, before the holiday season is here, get your home security in order. You will enjoy your holiday more if you’re not constantly worrying about your home’s security.
