Redoing your bathroom not only adds great value to your home, but also is a great way to give an old house a new lease on life.  If you do your homework, plan the project and think creatively your bathroom renovations do no have to leave your savings account empty.

We decided to ask the experts at On Tap Northriding to give us some advice on creating the perfect new bathroom to suit each type of budget.  We have divided it into three categories; watch-the-purse, reasonable and all-the-bells-and-whistles.

Q: What are the latest trends as far as bathrooms are concerned?
A: Watch-the-purse: Going green – these bathroom products benefit the user as well as the environment and are also neat and attractive.
Reasonable: Creating a focal point in the room by recognising that a bathroom is not just a functional wash place, but actually a haven to rejuvenate body and mind. Colour is used for effect and special attention is given to the smallest detail.
All-the-Bells-and-Whistles: The biggest trend now, worldwide, is the recognition that bathrooms are not just functional. The bathroom has taken its place in homes as a place of expression and is a reflection of the owner, and the luxury they deserve.

Watch-the-purse

Q: How can you go about redoing your bathroom on a very limited budget?
A: When you have a tight budget, it’s best to view your options very carefully. Don’t panic if your entire bathroom needs to be redone, take a phased approach and accomplish your dream result over time. Apportion your budget appropriately - remember that quality is remembered long after the price is forgotten, so look at spending more on your taps and sanitary ware. Choose all the other finishes and accessories apportioned to that. You don’t want to just focus on a trendy look and forget that you should buy products that will last and be water-wise. By redoing your bathroom in stages, you can save up a new budget for each feature.

Q: Which products will suit low budget bathrooms best?
A: Wall-mounted basins gives the bathroom a spacious feel and there are no extra costs involved such as cabinetry, but if you’re worried about storage, then a simple shelf or basket will do.
Single lever basin mixers are chic, functional and easy to clean. The Hansgrohe Cosmo E2 Single Lever Basin mixer offers chrome finishing, a QuickClean function, as well as a boltic lock to ensure a sturdy handle that won’t jiggle after a few years of use. The temperature regulator in Hansgrohe taps will ensure the control of warm and cold water flow, which will help save money as the water flow is regulated.
Update your shower head to something a bit more eco-friendly, such as the Hansgrohe Crometta 85 Green Shower Head. This shower head will help you save on water consumption and money.
Toilets with a dual-flush system will allow you to choose between a half or full flush at a time. The Kalevit Idea Water Closet is a good choice to go for.

Reasonable

Q: How can you go about redoing your bathroom on a regular budget?
A: Remember what you use in a bathroom the most, and make those the priority – taps and sanitary ware, and then the cosmetic features like paint, tiles and linen. Spend your money wisely and focus on quality and not just price.

Q: Which products will suit medium budget bathrooms best?
A: Chic shower: If your focus area is the shower, purchase a good quality shower head and shower mixer, like the ones from the Hansgrohe Talis Classic range. Then draw attention to it by surrounding it with tile mosaics, a frameless glass shower panel and focusing light on this area by installing a nearby light fixture that is water resistant. A good quality shower head and mixer will give you the feel of luxury, even though other areas of the bathroom are in your mind “ordinary”. At least this way, every time you have a shower, you will remember that your bathroom is awesome.
Accessories: As with fashion, you need to accessorise - look for different textures, sizes and complementary colours that will give your bathroom extra depth, especially in your feature area.

All-the-Bells-and-Whistles

Q: How can you go about redoing your bathroom when money is not really a problem?
A: Making a solid investment in quality bathroom products will ensure a timeless elegance and offer years of luxurious use. These products usually combine traditional style with a contemporary take on things: oversized faucets, timeless quality, unique finishes, innovative features and unusual combinations of style and design. Look for top of the range designer products such as the Hansgrohe Axor range that will bring a unique, yet timeless elegance to the bathroom. When walking into an expensive bathroom, you will find that you do not notice one thing at a time but rather the over all presence of the room! Make an impact, and the key is in the detail. Every piece of product or accessory in the bathroom should be outstanding and interesting, yet holistic. Placement is essential, so if budget is not an issue, look at getting an interior designer to do the makeover for you.

Q: Which products will best suit an top of the range bathroom?
A: Timeless, unique and the ultimate in design is what you want – like a collector’s item in your bathroom. And this is what you get with the various Hansgrohe Axor ranges. Hansgrohe Axor is associated with the best designers – Starke, Citterio, Massaud and, currently, Patricia Urquiola. All the Axor ranges are absolutely outstanding in their design elements, innovation and quality.

Q: What are the latest bathroom accessories available on the market?
A: Heated towel rails are making a huge comeback in the world of bathrooms!
The Jeeves Model M Shelf Rail makes use of Wet Element Technology (WET). This method utilises a cartridge element immersed in a heat transfer fluid. When the element heats up, the heat is transfered to the surrounding fluid - similar to the principle used in hot water geysers. The heated fluid is distributed throughout the unit by flowing through the bars of the towel rail. The Jeeves-range can conveniently fit into any position in the bathroom, as it is available in free-standing, wall, floor and glass mounting options.
