We decided to tell you a bit more about soup and what you will need to have a successful soup-dinner this winter!

About soup

According to Wikipedia.org soup is a food that is made by combining ingredients such as meat and vegetables with stock, juice, water or another liquid. Hot soups are additionally characterized by boiling solid ingredients in liquids in a pot until the flavor is extracted, forming a broth. Soup is often very nutritious. Traditionally, soups are classified into two main groups: clear soups and thick soups. The established French classifications of clear soups are bouillon and consommé. Thick soups are classified depending upon the type of thickening agent used: purées are vegetable soups thickened with starch; bisques are made from puréed shellfish or vegetables thickened with cream; cream soups may be thickened with béchamel sauce; and veloutés are thickened with eggs, butter and cream. Other ingredients commonly used to thicken soups and broths include rice, flour and grains. Soups are similar to stews, and in some cases there may not be a clear distinction between the two. Generally though, soups have more liquid than stews.

Soup accessories / appliances

Things you will need to make the perfect bowl of soup.

Pressure cooker

Pressure cookers are generally made from aluminum or stainless steel. A gasket or sealing ring forms a gas-tight seal which does not allow air or steam to escape between the pot and the lid; normally, the only way the steam can escape is through a regulator on the lid when the pressure has built up.

Advantages:

  • Foods are cooked much faster by pressure cooking than by other methods and with much less water, so dishes can be ready sooner.
  • Less energy is required than when boiling, steaming or oven cooking. Since less water is necessary, the foods come to cooking temperature faster.
  • With pressure cooking, heat is very evenly, deeply, and quickly distributed.
