It doesn’t matter how big, strong, rich or poor you are – everyone needs a blanket to stay warm and get a good night’s rest. Blankets are available in different sizes and colours and there are also different types of blankets to keep you warm …
Blankets
A blanket is a type of bedding, generally speaking, a large piece of cloth, intended to keep the user warm, especially while sleeping. Blankets are distinguished from sheets by their thickness and purpose; the thickest sheet is still thinner than the lightest blanket, because blankets are for warmth, while sheets are for hygiene, comfort and aesthetics. Blankets are subdivided into many types, including quilts, duvets, and comforters, depending on their thickness, construction and/or fill material.
Blankets were traditionally made of wool because of wool's warmth, breathability and natural fire-retardant properties, while sheets were made of cotton or linen, which are less irritating to the skin. These days, synthetic fibres are frequently used for both.

Blanket care
Although blankets are made of many different fibres and blends, most of them are washable by hand or machine. Even some wool blankets can be machine-washed.
If you really want to keep your blankets in top shape, follow these additional guidelines:
- Vacuum blankets occasionally to remove dust and lint.
- Air blankets on a clothesline periodically to freshen them.
- Before you wash a blanket, mend or replace bindings and treat spots and stains.
Throws
Throw blankets are smaller blankets, often in decorative colours and patterns, which can be used for extra warmth outside of bed.
Comforter
A comforter is a type of blanket. Comforters are intended to keep the user warm, especially during sleep, although they can also be used as mattress pads. Comforters are generally large and rectangular in shape, filled with natural or synthetic isolative material and encased in a shell/covering. Like quilts, comforters are generally used with a set of sheets.
Duvets
A duvet is a type of bedding — a soft flat bag traditionally filled with down or feathers, or a combination of both, and used on a bed as a blanket. Duvets originated in rural Europe and were made from the down feathers of the eider duck, known for its usefulness as an insulator. Duvets reduce the complexity of making a bed, as it is a single covering instead of the combination of bed sheets, blankets, and quilts or other bed covers, which is traditional in many parts of the world.
In modern times, a duvet is sometimes filled with silk, wool, cotton, or artificial fibres (such as polyester batting or other artificial material).

Down duvets
The handcrafted Channel Style Duvet consists of a series of channels, each individually filled with your choice of filling. The baffle wall construction between the seam lines eliminate cold spots and allow for maximum loft. This flexible duvet is ideal for growing children as additional channels can be added as the child grows. There are three different down duvets available:
Ring-stitch duvet: In a perfect world all duvets would be this light, fluffy and puffy! The Ring-Stitch Duvet features small rings, the size of a R2 coin, stitched into the duvet casing. This creates an attractive sculptured look and keeps the filling evenly distributed through the duvet.
Box-stitched duvet: Created from the inside out, this luxurious duvet consists of a system of boxes that are separated by a series of internal fabric walls. This cross stitching in a box format prevents the shifting of down while the baffle wall construction eliminates cold spots and allows the down to loft to its full potential.
Four Seasons Duvet™: The flexible design of the Four Seasons Duvet™ features two separate down duvets, one lighter than the other. The lighter duvet is ideal for summer, while the medium weight one is perfect for autumn and spring. In winter simply clip the two together for generous warmth. Both duvets are Box-Stitched so that the filling stays evenly distributed.
Fibre Puff duvets
This duvet, also know as the Unicurl Duvet, provides a cosy alternative to down. It is meticulously stuffed with tiny, bouncy, synthetic fibre puff balls to resemble the puffiness of our down filled duvets. It is encased in our 100% cotton down proof fabric and is stitched in the unique Box-Stitch style to ensure that the filling stays in place.
