safe and affordable underfloor heating
Underfloor heating is considered the ultimate luxury and indulgence, but many people have preconceived ideas that their heating bill is going to skyrocket and that this type of heating is unsafe.

These days, underlaminate-heating pads are economically designed to efficiently warm up floors and the rest of the home and boast numerous safety features that make it a safe and easy to use heating option.

“Besides ensuring you have warm feet during winter, underfloor heating will also increase the value of your home as it is an attractive feature for potential buyers,” says Jose Dos Passos, managing director at Floors Direct.

Some safety features of the Warmup heating systems, supplier of underfloor heating solutions to Floors Direct, include tough element insulation and heating pads that are waterproof and resistant to chemical attack. Timers and thermostats determine when the heating switches on and off, and control the temperature. Another feature is that the heating elements are hidden from view therefore, there are no visible elements or radiators.

You can choose to install the heating pads in specific rooms, for example in the lounge or bedrooms, but not in the kitchen. The heating pads will distribute heat evenly in the chosen areas. Temperature controllers give you precise control of comfort levels, so you can determine the temperature you prefer.

Several health benefits make underfloor heating that much more attractive. Considered as radiant heating, this type of heating is recommended for asthma sufferers, as it doesn’t exude dry heated air to aggravate allergies.

Contrary to the misconception that underlfoor heating is not economical, the latest systems are energy efficient and cost-effective to run. For example, a 15m” room will require a standard heating unit, which uses 1500 Watts or 1.50 kilo Watts per hour and this works out to a cost of 0.75c per hour. In comparison, a two-bar heater uses 1.60kW per hour and will cost 0.80c per hour and a 14 fin oil heater uses 3.00kW an hour and will cost R1.50 per hour.

Laminates are attractive, durable and hygienic and with underlaminate heating you can enjoy them all year round at a fraction of the cost of conventional heating. Underfloor heating is safe, unobtrusive, economical and energy efficient,” says Carey Edkins, sales and technical representative at Warmup.

Remember that it is not recommended to use a rug on a heated laminate floor, as the rug will trap the heat, making that part of the floor much warmer than the rest of the surface. This can cause the laminate to expand and contract unevenly, which may damage the floor over an extended period.

Bring warmth to laminate flooring with underfloor heating that warms the room gently, safely and efficiently and say goodbye to cold floors and cold feet during winter.
