There is not better way to cool down or heat up your body during winter or summer, than taking a long, relaxing bath – which will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the world. Bathrooms have evolved a lot over the years and we have seen nearly every trend, from traditional coloured bathrooms with flower motifs as a border, to ultramodern earth tone bathrooms with funky showers and sanitary ware. But what does the future hold for the world of bathrooms? What will be trendy in the year to come?
Andreas Lipinski, from Kaldewei, answered some of our questions to help us establish the trends that will be popular in the bathroom in 2011:
Q: What is going to be the most popular bathroom trends in 2011?
A: “People will focus on buying high quality sanitary ware, instead of cheap imports from China.”
Q: What is going to be the most popular colour schemes in the bathroom in 2011?
A: “Earthy colours have remained popular over the years and 2011 is no exception. Bold colours such as red and black will also be popular this year.”
Q: What shape, size and material sanitary ware will be popular in 2011 and why?
A: “The trends as far as shapes are concerned will remain the same as the previous year. Round; oval and square and rectangular shapes will thus be popular options for bathrooms in 2011. Large, luxurious baths will be very popular this year as bathrooms are designed to have more space.
Traditional materials such as ceramic en enamel will make a comeback as far as baths and basins are concerned. People will most definitely move away from mineral oil based composite materials like Corian, Plastic, Acrylic, cast Marble or Quarz etc. because a lot of people have had bad experiences with these new materials; they look great in the beginning, but they have no durability. An acrylic bath for example is usually already scratched when the plumber is gone and before it was used for the first time.
Enamel baths (either cast iron and enamel or steel and enamel) are much better options to choose and will last longer. These baths are scratch resistant, colourfast, UV resistant, heat and acid resistant.”
Q: Tell us a bit more about exciting new bathroom concepts in 2011?
A: “New houses will be built with more open plan bedrooms / bathrooms than ever before.”
