How to find the right sofa for your living room

If you're revamping your living room at the moment, you're bound to be on the hunt for some great furniture to fill the space with once your redecorating project is complete.

A sofa is something which is bound to last you a while, so you should be trying to find one which is comfortable, sturdy and stylish, so it complements everything within the room.

What shape is best for you?

The shape and size of couch you choose will be largely dependent upon the room you're putting it in. If you haven't got much space, a corner sofa could be a good option. They usually come in a range of different options, so, whether you've got a right-hand wall or left-hand wall to put it next to, you'll find one to fit.

Another option to consider is a modular sofa. These are the types you can arrange and connect in any way you wish, allowing you to create a unique look within the space.

A sofa bed is a good choice if you often have people spending the night at your house. It'll be a comfy place to sit and it will have the added bonus of also being a bed, saving you space in your living room.

What cushions are you after?

The type of cushion you have on your settee will dictate how comfortable it is. If you go for foam cushions, for example, they will offer you good support and they recover their shape well, so they're fairly easy to maintain.

Fibre cushions, meanwhile, need to be plumped up every day to help them keep their shape. But they are comfortable and soft, so they're a great choice if that's what you're after.

If you want really luxurious comfort and softness, and you're willing to look after your cushions, feather-filled ones could be best for you. While those who are looking for something which keeps its shape well and are soft should look for pocket-sprung cushions.

The key things to remember are that you want to have seats which are comfortable, but are also supportive. There's no point in buying something which is going to hurt your back when you sit on it for prolonged periods of time. Try before you buy as well – that's the best way of getting exactly what you want.
