Curtains can take up a lot of space in a small or busy room. Alternatively, you may just want to decorate your home in an unusual manner. Whatever your reason, not wanting to have traditional curtains or blinds in a room doesn’t mean that the windows have to go undressed.
Here are some great ways to make your windows pop without framing them with curtains.
Have just a valance
There’s no reason why a valance needs to go over a set of curtains. You can add plenty of drama and colour to your windows with just a valance. These come in all kinds of designs – from simple and straightforward to brocaded and ornate.
The great thing about a valance over your windows is that they block out some of the sun without blocking your view. This will go a long way to keeping the room cooler in the summer.
This is a fun way to get some privacy without stopping light from getting in. You can get strings of beads relatively cheaply from craft stores and turn them into window decorations that really stand out.
For a simple covering, go for matte beads that won’t reflect the light. If you want a bit more drama, get some reflective or glass beads. These will sparkle in the sunshine and in the artificial light at night time.
To give yourself a bit of shade and some visual interest, this is a great option. You can go for dark decals that don’t let the light through. Put these round the edges of the glass so that you don’t block out the view entirely.
Another option is to go for stickers that are see-through or opaque. This way you can cover more of the window without obscuring the view or darkening the room too much.
Whichever option you go for, you’ll create playful shadows around the room.
Instead of adding to the window dressing, simply paint the frames a bright colour and make that the statement. Go for an accent colour that matches the rest of the décor in your room – the bolder you go, the more of a statement the window will make.
This is a lovely option to pair with the stick on decals for added drama and interest.
