Most homeowners want to keep their houses warm while at the same time keeping their electricity costs down. Rugs and carpets are an excellent way to retain heat inside your house. And an added benefit is that they can make your house look beautiful.
But there are more reasons than just the obvious that will convince you to make a trip to the nearest rug store.
A soft landing
Hard surfaces can be slippery and especially dangerous for babies and the elderly. A carpet not only provides a soft landing surface when you do fall, it also helps to prevent some falls in the first place.
Drowning out the noise
A carpet or rug will significantly decrease the noise levels in your house. Not only is carpet quieter to walk on than a hard-surface floor, it also absorbs sound from the air. Sound carries much further when there is no carpet in a room.
Have you ever noticed that after a period of time spent standing or walking on ceramic tiles or concrete, your body is sore and achy? Most people will agree that a carpet is more comfortable to stand on than is a hard-surface floor. Not only does the carpet feel softer, but its softness gives it flexibility, which allows the carpet to absorb some of the impacts of your footstep. This takes some of the pressure off your body.
Warm and cosy
Carpet is warmer than hard-surface flooring. It provides excellent insulation, much more than hard-surface flooring materials. Reducing heat loss means that carpet can help you save on heating costs, such as electricity or gas. For regions that experience cold winters, this could amount to a big cost savings every year.
Easy to install
Carpet often costs less than hard-surface floors. Many hard-surface flooring products, such as wood and vinyl, require special preparation before they can be installed. Carpet can be installed over a variety of sub-floors, with far less stringent requirements. This saves a great deal of cost. Additionally, carpet itself can be less expensive than other materials such as hardwood.
It looks nice
When properly placed, an area rug can help anchor the furniture in a room, which helps to create a cozy, intimate space. Without the rug, it can feel as though the furniture is “floating” in the room.Tags: Carpets & Flooring, Furniture, Interior Design & Decor
