Out with old, in with the new! The idea of getting a fresh new start is something that many share this time of year. In theory it’s a great idea, but in practice it stands the risk of being a little idealistic. Redecorating a whole room can become very costly – especially after the December splurge.
Here are some quick and easy fixes to give your living space that added punch. Not only are they simple to do, they are inexpensive and will ward off any buyer’s remorse!
Style up your bookshelves
Banish the boring! Bookshelves are no longer traditional bookshelves but display cabinets. Place some books lying down, and group same size books in small batches on the shelf to create focal points. Display items such as ornaments, candles and photos between the clusters of books to break the monotony of just having endless rows of books on your bookshelf.
Don’t display all your ornaments at once, put some away for the next season. Tables and display cabinets can get an entirely new look by just swapping around and moving displays throughout the house. Rotate your paintings, cushion covers and even lamp shades. Sometimes and easy upholster project over your lampshades can make all the difference for a season. If you have a headboard that can support the use of slipcovers, then your headboard cover can be changed almost just as often as your duvet cover is!
A vase of flowers displayed in any room instantly brightens and lifts the living space. Flowers are not only attractive to look at but also fill the room with the sweetest aroma.
When it comes to rug choices, the myriad of choices ranges from rich Persian to jazzy geometrics. It’s easy to pick up an inexpensive area rug from many second hand and vintage stores in a colour that complements your room. It will brighten up everything around it — with virtually no effort on your part. An area rug is a wonderful way of defining a conversation area. Lay it at an angle beneath your coffee table.
Add new decorative light switch covers: Forget about plain and boring white or beige light covers.
Change Your Door Handle: Door handles aren’t too complicated to change and come in a variety of styles and colour choices. These are small elements but can make the world of difference when it comes to the look and feel of your light switches and door
Clutter has a way of eliminating the desired mood and effect of any room. Find storage spaces for papers, toys, and other items that take from the personality of a room. The more organised and uncluttered your home is, the better it will look and the more comfortable it will feel.
