When the temperature drops, our nesting instincts kick into overdrive – and our focus moves to the bedroom to prepare for snuggle-up warmth to enjoy all winter long.
Just because it is winter does not mean that you have to settle for a drab and dreary bedroom. When it becomes cold, your bedroom should be a warm cocoon of comfort.
Warmer tones, like red, gold and orange, are sure ways to generate a bit of heat, and it is easy to add them in if you already have bedding in neutral colours as a base.
Upholstered furniture – a chair or a bench at the foot of the bed – brings an extra level of softness and comfort to a bedroom. For prime nesting, create a cozy spot to curl up with a book and blanket.
Winter is also the time to replace sleek and shiny surfaces with a variety of textures to create the kind of look and feel that will make you want to kick off your shoes. For example, the whitewashed walls with woven furniture and natural rugs add a level of depth and dimension.
Of course, a rug underfoot adds instant warmth. Natural rugs are great, but maybe not up to beating the winter cold on their own. So layer a rug in a different pattern or shape on top for a bit of extra warmth.
All that remains now is to choose a book, make some hot chocolate and enjoy!
