For over a decade, World of Decorative Concrete (WODC) has wowed audiences at HOMEMAKERS Expo with their brilliant concrete creations. Proving that concrete can be used for much more than dull, grey structures, WODC invites you to get your hands dirty in The Raw Workshop at the 2019 Johannesburg HOMEMAKERS Expo happening from 28th February to 3rd March at Ticketpro Dome.
The Raw Workshop will celebrate raw comfort, allowing you to see the latest trends while engaging with artisans, craftspeople and experts who diligently work with natural materials to bring you a range of beautifully, raw products.
Johan Coetzee, CEO of WODC, encourages HOMEMAKERS visitors to make their own concrete projects. The Raw Workshop gives you the space to be creative, do some DIY experimenting, get advice and buy the best products to take home to use as a DIY art medium. “Everybody has a bit of creativity and they can design their own art and personalise it,” says Johan Coetzee.
What makes the Raw Workshop at the upcoming Johannesburg HOMEMAKERS Expo so special is the combination of different natural elements. Experts who work with concrete, wood, leather, glass and metal will all be featured in the Raw Workshop. This gives you the chance to physically try out your ideas and be inspired by the expert craftsman who know and love their products.
WODC are the industry leaders when it comes to working with concrete on any scale. Renowned for their innovation, the company has been involved with numerous internationally award-winning projects, including the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban and the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa.
They have not only experienced how the use of concrete has changed over the years, but have been a driving force behind making this strong, durable, versatile and designer friendly product an ongoing trend for homes and industrial projects. Particularly when it comes to producing polished concrete floors.
As the trend and demand for concrete continues to evolve and grow, Johan Coetzee sees concrete being incorporated with other natural elements and used more in design and art.
You can be part of the evolution by entering the “For the love of concrete” competition. Sponsored by WODC, this year Johan Coetzee hopes to see unique, functional design items that really show off WODC’s products. In previous years, the competition has seen some amazing design and art pieces. Johan Coetzee says his most memorable piece was a lady made out of concrete entered into the art competition at Cape Town HOMEMAKERS Expo last year.
Whether you’re looking for inspiration, are a home lifestyle newbie or a creative genius, get your hands dirty at the Johannesburg HOMEMAKERS Expo Raw Workshop.
