We’ve put local interior designers to the test, challenging them to create a living space inspired by the interior design styles of a country of their choice. The display rooms are a place to find inspiration and ask questions about how to incorporate similar styles in your own space.
You can stand a chance to win R1000 in cash by visiting the Designer Spaces Challenge and voting for your favourite design.
Presenting a Mozambican escape, Rikalet Beetge of Living Senses Lifestyle Interiors will help you create a comfortable and restful space. We asked her and the team a few questions to find out why she chose this casual style.
How long have you been an interior designer and how did you get into it?
It might be cliché but I started decorating my doll house since I can remember and forever changing the look of my bedroom while growing up. I’m a mom of two and the heart behind Living Senses with over 12 years of experience in the industry. I enjoy the process of finding design inspiration and drawing together different ideas with my clients to create a unique and personal look.
Why did you choose Mozambique as your inspiration Country, what makes it unique?
I love the casual and organic feel of Mozambican inspired interiors! There’s something quite appealing about escaping your daily life to an interior style that feels miles away from your everyday routine.
If having a stretch of ocean between you and the rest world is at the top of your list, this style definitely will not disappoint. I enjoy bringing the charm of relaxed living into a client’s everyday life where comfort should be the new luxury.
Combining elements of both traditional and modern furnishings lends itself to a stunning restful space. Unique textures can really come to the fore as they can be found in all the natural fibres and products like textiles, baskets, floorcoverings, bedlinen, tableware and artistic creations.
What is the one piece every Mozambican styled room needs?
No Mozambican styled room is complete without something that is tied to nature, whether its bamboo, wood, roots or shells.
