What are the different styles of stairs?
There are a few different types of stairs that you can research for your new home. Each of these have a different function or aesthetic look depending on your needs. We will start with the most common and work our way to the more elaborate styles.
Straight stairs are a simple and efficient design that make for an easy walking surface. This is the most common of all stair types.
The L-shaped staircase makes a 90 degree turn at some point, going left or right after the landing.
The winder staircase has a similar shape to an L-shape, but one side of each tread is wider than the other.
The U-shaped staircase has an extra bend in the middle that takes it from L shape, to full blown U. This means you will have two flights of stairs going up or down with only one lander between them for easy access at either end.
The spiral is a very unique and fascinating design, centred around one pole. If you looked at it from above, then the steps would form a perfect circle.
Curved stairs are a striking architectural statement that make for an interesting design feature in any home. Unlike L-shaped or winding styles, these have no landings and the staircase continues on to follow its natural bend of the bannister.
The bifurcated stairs include one sweeping set of steps that splits off into two smaller flights going in opposite directions.
