We sat down with MD Francois Coetzee to learn more.

“Tuscan Stone specialises in all things concrete, and paving-related. We started in 2002, and the current management team has been at the helm for the past eight years.”

It’s not all set in stone though…

They also have natural cladding options, and we have an Outdoor Living Spaces Department where they provide wooden pergolas, sandstone benches, and tables.

They even have a wide variety of fire and braai gear, including a range of wood- and gas-fired appliances.

Who is the Tuscan Stone team?

The company is a family-owned business led by a father-and-son management team: Gerhard Coetzee Sr. and Francois Coetzee, who serve as its two directors. Tuscan Stone operates with a lean structure, keeping overheads low to offer competitive pricing while maintaining high product quality.

“Our dedicated team includes seven office staff who ensure smooth day-to-day operations, two full-time sales representatives, several part-time reps, three truck drivers, threee workshop employees, and approximately 38 other skilled workers.”

Maintaining a successful business in the current economic climate comes with some challenges, but Tuscan Stone doesn’t back down.

“We compete in the same market as much larger companies whose well-established names often draw in business. Despite this, we have worked hard to build our reputation and have succeeded by consistently delivering quality and reliable service.”

In the end, their products speak for themselves, and even large-scale projects don’t faze them.

“Our most significant project to date has been the CRC Church paving project in Randburg, where we successfully manufactured and delivered 20,000 m² of product ahead of schedule over a three-month period.”

They take pride in serving repeat clients who manage multiple projects and continue to return based on the reliability and impeccable service.

“Over the years, we’ve had many proud moments—meeting tight deadlines that few others could achieve.”

Expanding into retail spaces like Chamberlains has also been a major milestone and a testament to the growing trust in the Tuscan Stone brand.

A dynamic and scalable business model has played a key part in their success.

“After the COVID-19 pandemic, we made a strategic decision to branch out into the retail sector, actively pursuing clients in this space.”

Over time, this retail expansion initiative has gained momentum, and they now supply approximately 30 garden centres and around 15 hardware stores—with steady growth continuing.

“We’ve achieved year-on-year business growth and look forward to expanding into other provinces in the near future.”

The are focussed on doing business in South Africa and understand that their local communities are where the real value of the Tuscan Stone brand lies.

“We take pride in being a locally owned and operated business, with our entire value chain rooted is in the communities we serve. From manufacturing to delivery and sales, every step of our process is managed locally to ensure quality control, responsiveness, and economic impact.”

Their products are manufactured on-site using locally sourced materials wherever possible, supporting nearby suppliers and reducing transportation costs and environmental impact. This hands-on approach allows them to maintain high quality standards while remaining flexible to meet client needs.

From paper to paver, in control every step of the way.

“We have designed our own product range and hold the copyrights, along with full in-house manufacturing capabilities.”

This allows them to produce large quantities of moulds overnight when required, and to replace worn moulds promptly—ensuring consistency and minimal downtime. The quality of their paving products is directly linked to the quality of the moulds, which is why they invested in developing this capability themselves.

“By controlling this critical part of the process, we maintain high standards and deliver reliable, top-grade products to our clients.”

The sales and distribution teams are also based locally, ensuring prompt service, lasting personal relationships with clients, and a deep understanding of the regional market.

“By keeping our operations local, we not only create jobs within our community but also reinvest in its growth, contributing to a stronger, more resilient local economy.”

“All our paving products are proudly manufactured in Gauteng, where we maintain full control over quality and production. From our base, we distribute across South Africa and also export to neighbouring countries, including Zimbabwe and Namibia.”
