Must Have Bathroom Gadgets
Listen to this article in Zulu:
Winter isn’t just coming anymore. It is upon us. It’s difficult to get up now that the sun has decided to hit the snooze button…
Why not start your day off in luxury and invest in one (or all!) of these must-have bathroom gadgets?
We have done the research for you. All you have to do is decide what your budget is.
On the Sensible Spend side, we have a couple of options that won’t break the bank but will add a hint of luxury to your daily bathroom routine.
The first bathroom gadget is a Memory Foam Bathmat.
You think you know the true meaning of comfort? Think again! Memory foam bathmats are where science and the golden age of comfort come together. Warm, soft, absorbent.
It’s like having a personal “post-shower foot valet” who lovingly cuddles your feet and gently soaks up drips and splashes.
Although there is probably a spec sheet for these things, explaining exactly what clever compounds it consists of, we don’t care.
As far as we are concerned – memory foam bathmats are pure magic, and we don’t care if we understand this particular type of wizardry. We just know nothing feels like it and until you’ve tried this bathroom gadget you won’t understand.
Available at most home stores, we particularly love this one from @home:
On the Splashy Splurge side, we found the perfect bathroom gadget for winter.
Electric towel warmer
The only thing worse than realising you don’t have a clean towel ready as you step out of the shower or bath is taking that towel off its hook behind the door and realising that it is not just cold, but also slightly damp.
You know the feeling. Cold, bristly, and definitely not going to do a good job of drying? We have the solution: A wall mounted electric towel warmer. Not only can this unit heat up to a toasty 45 ̊C in just 15 minutes, but it also dries your used towel effectively, leaving it ready for your next shower and ensuring that bacteria and mould have nowhere to grow.
Here’s some from CTM to inspire your bathroom gadget shopping:
Our second option on the sensible spend side is a possible health-boosting bathroom gadget:
A body composition scale
We all know that BMI means more than simply keeping track of your weight, but that BMI alone also isn’t the best way to determine your health. A body composition scale measures so much more.
“In addition to body weight, it also gives you a realistic picture of your health and fitness with 13 data points: body score, body weight, muscle mass, BMI, body fat, water, protein, basal metabolism, visceral fat, bone mass, body age, ideal weight, exercise/body.”
Most of these scales work with a mobile app and allow you to keep an accurate record of your body composition.
BNETA has this one to contribute to the mix.
Second on the Splashy Splurge bathroom gadget list is something that’s all about self-care and indulgence. Not necessarily for the morning rushed routine, but definitely a must-have gadget for when you have the time to take a warming and relaxing bath, is:
A state-of-the-art bath caddy
We don’t mean the super fussy plank your granny might have had over her avocado green ’70s bathtub. Replete with frills and lace.
Think sleek modern metal and bamboo with a stand for your tablet, a spot for your smartphone, a non-slip area for your snack bowl, and even a slide-in slot that ensures even the biggest glass of wine doesn’t tumble into the tub.
Umbra has our favourite version.
Finally – a scalable spend, which you can make as Sensible or Splashy as your budget allows.
A bathroom sound system
This can be a R200 waterproof Bluetooth speaker that hooks around the top of the shower door, or a fully-fledged Harmon Kardon surround sound system built into your ceiling. It sounds like a novelty, until you have it. Listen to news and traffic updates as you shave. Sing out loud with your favourite tunes. Catch up on your podcasts. Even have a full stereo sound experience in the tub. You decide. But most of all – you deserve it.
